PRAGYA PAllAVI

On the verge of the famous ‘Super 30’ of Bihar School Education and literacy Department, Jharkhand has begun working on its plan to guide 40 meritorious candidates for various prestigious medical and engineering entrance examinations. As many as 40 school students from Government schools will be given special coaching and guidance for various All India engineering and medical competition examinations from January 15.

The training will be started in State Capital, Ranchi, on a pilot basis and will be extended to other blocks too in 2017 from next session. Candidates who fall in below poverty line (BPl) criteria and whose families’ annual income is less than 1 lac can avail the benefit by providing all the necessary details to the concerned department.

Citing details about the programme, Ranchi District Education Officer, Rajkumar Prasad Singh informed, “The entire concept is based on Super 30. The motto is to provide all basic services to the economically and socially weaker section students in the coming days for competitive exams. The coaching will be started from January 15 at Zila School premises and will continue till April 2016, as all the entrance examinations are scheduled in the month of May.”

About the selection criteria Singh said, “We have sent the notification to all the government school Principals and have asked them to prepare the list of meritorious candidates and sent it back to School Education department. Candidates who have performed well in class 10 and class 12 are eligible for coaching. In case if the number of students is more than the prescribed numbers, the concerned officials will conduct screening test and finally 40 students will be selected.”

However, the ambitious project to empower the socially and economically meritorious candidates completely depends upon the skilled and trained teachers.

“The selection of teachers depends on three criteria. All the government teachers who have qualified PGT (post graduate training) examination and must be well versed with science stream subjects are eligible for the programme. Preference will be given to the retired teachers too and the concerned department is also trying to contact and tie-up with few reputed coaching institutes in the city to provide quality education to the students,” said programme in-charge of the project, Ashok Singh.

Students will be guided by experts in five major subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

“All the teachers will be paid extra Rs500 per day apart from their salaries for guiding students in their specialised subjects. All necessary arrangements of lodging have been made at Zila School hostel for those candidates who are from other districts of Jharkhand,” added Singh.

Selection forms for both teachers and students have been made available to all the respective school principals by the education department.
