About 200 inmates of all the 26 jails of the State will start their fast-unto-death agitation from January 30. The Central committee of 'Bandi Mukti' has given this ultimatum in writing to the State Government and to all jail administrations on Tuesday.
In this letter the Central committee has reminded that more than 300 inmates of the jails of Jharkhand had threatened to sit on one-day fast, on January 16, to mark their protest against the delay in releasing the inmates who have completed their sentence. On that day the agitating inmates had given the hint that if the state government will not take decision by January 26 they will go on fast unto death agitation. The state government has not taken any decision on such inmates who had completed their sentence so they are going to start a fresh round of agitation.
This time the central committee has also announced that from January 30, 30 inmates of JP Central Jail, Hazaribagh, 10 of Daltonganj Central Jail, 20 of Ranchi Hotwar Jail, 3 of latehar Jail and 5 of Dumka Central Jail will start fast unto death agitation. The Bandi Mukti Committee has requested the JP Central Jail administration to arrange a spot for their agitation near the central tower.
In Hazaribagh Jail Sanjay Singh, at Daltonganj Mahendra, at Ranchi Hotwar William Marandi, at Gumla Yogendra and at latehar Manish would lead the agitation. As per JP Jail sources here in Hazaribagh Jail atleast 35 inmates are waiting for their release since long. They have already completed their life term sentence but as per the decision of Supreme Court of India they can be released only when the state level committee headed by CM will recommend for it.
In Jharkhand the committee has been formed but its meeting has not taken place since long. After completion of life term period the jail administration sends a detailed report of his behavior in the jail etc. and on the basis of this report the committee recommends release order. The sources said that the state level committee has taken some decision in the first week of January but yet the official letter has not come to us.
