PNS

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently announced major changes in board examination 2022. Instead of one board exam at the end of the year, the academic session has been bifurcated into two terms with the board conducting Class 10 and 12 board exams at the end of each semester.

Along with the two board exams, the exam pattern has also been changed. The exams will now be two-hour-long and contain multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Several states are of the opinion of changing examination patterns on the lines of CBSE. The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) is also thinking of changing examination patterns on the lines of CBSE. The examination pattern will be changed in matriculation and intermediate examination.

The Department of School Education and Literacy has started its preparation. A proposal has been prepared in this regard. A final decision on the proposal is likely to be taken in a day or two. A senior official at the education department requesting anonymity said, “Due to Covid 19 pandemic, the examination in matriculation and intermediate in the state can also be taken in two phases on the lines of CBSE. Preparation for the first phase exam is going to take place in December while the second phase exam will be held in March.”

The official further said that in an emergency situation arising due to the third phase of pandemic and in such a situation if both the examinations could not be held due to Covid 19, then the result can be issued on the basis of one examination. The option of both online and offline examination is being considered. If both the exams are conducted in online and offline mode then the importance of both will be the same. On the other hand, if one exam is conducted online and the other offline mode, then the marks of the offline exam will give more weight-age.

The JAC is making a change in examination pattern as this year the matriculation and intermediate examination of the year 2021 was not held. The result of both the exams was prepared on the basis of the marks of class 9th and 11th of the year 2020. Apart from this JAC is also contemplating on cutting the syllabus of Class 9th to 12th. Syllabus can be cut up to 25%. The examination of the year 2022 will be taken on the basis of 75% syllabus only.

The JAC is planning to cut the syllabus as this year too, classes from class 9 to 12 commenced in August this year. Due to late commencing of examinations, JAC is planning to cut the syllabus. The JAC matriculation and intermediate examination will be held on an OMR sheet.

All questions in both the exams will be objective. The examination will be of 80 marks, while 20 marks will be from internal assessment.
