Interestingly, the 28th Inter-University East Zone Fest was also hosted by RU in 2012 that was organised at Hotwar while this one is being conducted at University’s Morhabadi campus. “Urban Development Minister CP Singh will be the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony on Monday. Prior to the inauguration, participating universities will present a cultural procession at the premises of Aryabhatt Auditorium,” said RU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr lN Bhagat during a press conference on Sunday.

Officer on Special Duty (Judicial) to Governor Nalin Kumar and AIU Joint Secretary Sampson David would be the other guests on the occasion. The mascot of the fest is ‘Mandariya’ (a man playing the local drum of Jharkhand). Events have been divided under the five categories including music, dance, literary, theatre and fine arts.

Bhagat said the university had suffered problems in the previous inter-university east zone youth fest. “This time, we have prepared a strategy of hosting. Participants are accommodated in the Basic Science Building. Programmes will be conducted at Aryabhatt Auditorium and in the hall of Central library Building,” the VC added.

The result of all the events will be sealed in envelopes by the judges of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and those hailing from the state. Gupta mentioned that depending upon the results, which are to be decided on January 8, the Champions and Runner up University would be declared.

For spectators unable to watch the events inside the different venues at Morhabadi campus, a big lED screen has been installed in front of Aryabhatt Auditorium. All the participants will be felicitated with a silver medal bearing the monogram of RU and AIU along with a certificate. local artistes will perform a musical presentation on Tuesday evening, whereas non-competitive performances are scheduled by RU and guest universities on Wednesday and Thursday.

On the occasion, Bhagat said that RU was willing to host a national inter-university youth fest and likely to meet the required formalities for the purpose. “In the last held Central Zone youth fest, there were around 400 participants while in the West Zone, there were 700 participants. In this East Zone fest, we have over 600 participants so, there are possibilities wherein AIU would grant us hosting the next inter-university national youth fest,” said SC Gupta, Dean, Student’s Welfare.

Till Sunday evening, participants from Gauhati University, Tezpur University, West Bengal Agricultural University, Central University of Bihar, Visva-bharati University and Rabindra Bharati University reached the state capital. Some students complained about unavailability of power supply and drinking water facilities in their rooms, which was later solved.
