Infrastructural hurdles for 89 established Model Schools

The existing 89 Model Schools functioning since 2013 still lack basic facilities. However, taking prompt action over the order of CM Raghubar Das, the Government is gearing to identify five schools in each district which can be developed as Model Schools.

According to officials under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), most of these schools do not have a permanent infrastructure and carry their academic session in buildings of other government schools. Moreover, all the teachers are contractual ones. Ranchi District Superintendent of Education (DSE) Jayant Kumar Mishra informed the 89 Model Schools were built in the first phase and the plan of locating five other schools for Model Schools is the second phase plan of the state government.

The schools are basically high schools from class sixth to tenth and are run in the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs). Every year, the admission is done through the class sixth entrance examination conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC).

“There are eight Model Schools in the state capital including GMS Childag, GMS Bero Boys, GMS Burmu, GMS Chanho, GMS Boreya, GMS lapung, GMS Mandar and MS Buniyadi Namkom. None of them have their own buildings. The students are taught in the classrooms of other government school,” said a Ranchi District RMSA employee.

Similarly, Hazaribag District Superintendent of Education Shivendu Kumar said, “The land acquisition for the five Model Schools was pending since their establishment. In my recent inspection, I found that buildings of such schools are now being constructed.”

While, Khunti DSE N Toppo pointed on the pending recruitment of permanent teachers in the prevailing Model Schools of her district. “We are yet to fix the interview process for the recruitment of Model School teachers,” she said.

Meanwhile, on May 21, CM instructed the Human Resource Development (HRD) Department officials to develop five schools into Model School so that other schools can imitate and function in a proper manner.

later on May 26, a team of Education Officers were asked by the HRD Secretary Aradhana Patnaik to visit the Rajkiyakrit Middle School at Jagannathpur which has emerged among the top model schools in the recent scenario. “Schools with strength of over 500 students will be recommended for the suggested model schools project. The purpose is to set an example of better academic atmosphere,” Patnaik had said after a meeting with these officers on the same date.
