Infighting has surfaced in district Congress over Lok Sabha candidate for 2024 elections with minister in-charge for Dhanbad Banna Gupta offered his resignation from the inchargeship on late Friday evening after meeting.
The reason is the local leaders including former MP Chandrasekher Dubey opposed the imposition of an outsider candidate for 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
It's worth mentioning that in the 2019 elections Kirti Azad was the party candidate and had lost by a huge margin of over 4.86 lakh votes.
Incidentally, Chandrasekher Dubey, who was party candidate in 2009, when was denied party ticket in 2014 Lok Sabh elections had quit the party and had contested this election as Trinamool Congress candidate. Then Dubey had secured just around 29,937 votes.
Dubey, joined party after huge defeat, is originally from Daltongunj and wants that party should not impose an outsider candidate at Dhanbad.
His this demand though has created a row and minister - incharge Banna Gupta offered resignation.
However, a section of party leaders said that Gupta himself is willing to contest Lok Sabha from Dhanbad thus has started holding " jan sunwaies"( public hearings ). In the last one month he participated in two such public hearings though had not called even a single one since took over as minister incharge four years back.
However, whoever may be the Congress candidate he would have to consider the victory margin of a sitting BJP MP during the last Lok Sabha elections. This happens to be over 4.86 lakhs according to Election Commission records.
