Judiciary is wielding influence: Sahay

Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay stated, "People who came to power in Ramlila Maidan in 2011 on the issue of Ombudsman, where did their ideology go, the very people who have damaged democracy today.” There was a time the Election Commission was looked upon as an independent and impartial autonomous institution but during Bengal elections, it seemed that the organization was not independent but under the central government, he said.  He further said that the PM has taken control over all the independent institutions which has led to people losing confidence in these institutions. Sahay said that in the present scenario, only the Judiciary is wielding influence but that is not enough to open the eyes of the Central government. However, recent decisions by the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court have instilled some hope. During these trying times, courts are the saviours of democracy.
