IMD rules out heavy downpours in State

Amid predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of country during next two-three days, Jharkhand office of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has categorically rejected the speculation of any such situation in Jharkhand.

Department Director in Jharkhand Vinay Kumar Mandal said on Saturday that the State has enjoyed a farm supportive monsoon so far, and there was no sign of any threatening downpour across the State altogether during next two-three days.

“There is a low pressure on north part of the State, which is moving further towards north. It may result in normal to heavy rain in some parts of North Jharkhand or normal rain across Northern region. But there is nothing to worry, as the stretch (rain) is moving towards north itself,” said Mandal.

He claimed that the State has enjoyed a farm-supportive monsoon so far. “Though there has been a deficit of around 20-25 percent in monsoon rain, the good thing is that whenever farmers required water in their fields, there has been a heavenly shower. So, even this deficit doesn’t mean much and we consider it normal monsoon,” claimed Mandal.

Nodal Officer at Jharkhand Disaster Management Authority Col. Sanjay Kumar Srivastava also carried similar views. “We monitor situation on daily basis. Our team has visited Patratu area today itself and we are keeping close vigil at river-beds, dams and lower lands of the State. There is neither sign of torrential rain in next two-three days, nor has water-level risen above alarming situation anywhere except in Ganga at Sahibganj which has multiple factors for it,” said Srivastava.
