Illiteracy, negligence and alienated attitude of the Government were the main reasons behind the ‘revenge diktat’ issued to rape a minor, found State Women Commission team who visited to the victim of Friday.
The State Women Commission Chairperson Mahua Manjhi along with member Shabnam Parveen and Irani Kasturi rushed to Tenughat Government hospital to meet the minor who was raped following a ‘revenge diktat’ by the panchayat chief Ghoshal Pasi on Monday. This incident occurred only due to ‘Illiteracy’ among the villagers as well as panchayat members, said Mahua Manjhi and blamed the Government for negligence.
After taking discharge from the hospital Manjhi along with the minor girl rushed to Gulgulia village Swang in Gomia block of Bokaro district of Jharkhand and asked the villagers about that heinous act. Manjhi also meet Guria Devi who forcibly pulled the minor soon after the diktat issued and handed over the girl to his husband to rape.
“They people are very conservative minded and ‘tit for tat’ is their tradition; so the revenge diktat was issued, said Manjhi”. “When I asked Guria “You are a woman and how could you provoke a minor for physical insult by your husband”. She replied: “it’s our tradition,” said Manjhi.
Stressed over the incident Manjhi said, only education can bring change and eliminate such evil thoughts and concepts form the society. “Women Commission along with district administration will soon launch awareness and educational programmes in this area, so that such heinous would not be repeated again”, she added.
Notably, after the panchayat’s diktat a minor was raped just because her brother allegedly molested a woman who was the daughter of the Panchayat Mukhiya, in Gulgulia village in Bokaro. After the complaint lodged by Munna Pasi the father of the victim girl police arrested Ghoshal Pasi (Mukhiya of the Panchayat), Nakabandi Pasi (rape accused) and Harender Pasi (accused of molestation) and sent to jail.
The minor girl (10) was raped by Nakabandi Pasi, whose wife was allegedly molested by Harender Pasi the brother of the victim (girl). And the woman who allegedly molested by Harender is a daughter of the Mukhiya (Ghoshal Pasi).
