Suffers space crunch at Suchna Bhawan
Bothered with space crunch at its temporary campus in Suchna Bhawan, Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi (IIM-R), is looking for 9000 square feet space. The premiere B-school has published advertisements on its website stating that the “office accommodation space required on hire space” should preferably lie between lPN Shahdeo Chowk to CCl Gandhinagar.
On April 11, during the third convocation ceremony institute’s acting director Professor Binay Bhushan Chakrabarti had highlighted that they are now suffering with acute space crunch at the temporary campus.“No inch of space is left at Suchna Bhawan. We need immediate space of around 9000 sqft for carrying out our academic session,” he had said.
An IIM-R offcial told The Pioneer, “New faculty to be invited here requires sitting space within the institute. We lack adequate faculty. Moreover, new courses like manufacturing management are to be started. Also, the new batches for Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives will be commencing from June or July onwards. This is probably the reason of searching a piece of land near Suchna Bhawan as the accommodation for none of the above is possible here anymore.”
The advertisement clearly specifies that total area is required for classrooms, offices and chambers besides few interior works to be done as per requirement. Interested parties have been asked to submit their offers by May 5.
According to IIM-R chairman RC Bhargava’s speech on convocation day, though Minister for Human Resource Development MM Pallam Raju had laid the foundation stone of IIM-R’s permanent campus at Cheri village on July 29 but it will take around three years to begin functioning of academic sessions from this plot.
Speaking about the present development at Cheri, Bhargava had said that they will be able to start work as soon as some small areas which are yet to be acquired, come into their possession.
It is said that the Board has initiated action to select a Project Management Consultant. The land mapping GM for Cheri land has been appointed and will work from the month of May, claims Chakrabarti.
Established in the same year of IIM-R, National University of Study and Research in law (NUSRl) is undergoing similar hurdle in the temporary campus at Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, Polytechnic campus. The Vice Chancellor Dr BC Nirmal had asked CPWD people to handover certain constructed work at its permanent campus of Nagri by April 30 so that the new batch can be accommodated from July. Sources say that this date can be extended.
