Newly-appointed Inspector General (IG), Ranchi, Suman Gupta, posing an open challenge to the criminals, stressed on making visible policing a regular phenomenon so that a sense of security could be developed among the masses. Gupta, after taking over the charge as IG of Ranchi Zone on Thursday, said that criminals in any form, whether they are regular criminal or officials, would not be allowed to carry out their illegal work anymore.

“Ranchi zone being badly affected by Naxalism, mafias and criminals, police must do their basic regular work. Criminal in any form, be it the organized criminals or an official holding any important position, I give them an open challenge that they will not be allowed to carry out their illegal activities anymore,” said Gupta.

Referring to recent incidents of loot and theft in the capital city, Gupta stressed on proper investigation and arrest of the criminals involved in these cases. “Criminals, involved in recent incidents of loot in the petrol pumps must get arrested immediately, so that a sense of trust gets developed among the common people,” said the IG.

“Visible policing needs to be done extensively and should also be made a regular phenomenon in order to develop a sense of security among the people,” she said. When asked about the regular challenges posed by the criminals, the IG said that challenges are the seeds of achievement for which the team must be healthy and intact.

Recalling her last posting as City SP in Ranchi, the IG said that she was quite familiar with Ranchi Zone and the criminals getting equipped with new technology and gadgets are really a challenge which needs to be taken more seriously. According the new IG, she expects clean policing from her subordinate officers, working as a team, and focusing more on basic policing as it will affect adversely if even a single member of it gets diverted from its path.

“In spite of generalizing the issues, I prefer to bring specific case in the light against which you will also notice action done by the police from time to time,” said the IG. According to Gupta, investigation part of a case must also be taken as seriously as it done in the arresting of the criminals. Police must reach out to the crime through the criminals, rather than reaching out to the criminals through crime after being committed by them, added Gupta.
