Three collieries of Central Coalfields limited which are under Hazaribagh region has caused the company heavy loss during last two fiscal years. These collieries are Tapin North opencast, Parez East opencast and Kedla underground mines.

This fact was revealed when the regional manager of Hazaribagh region circulated the copy of income and expenditure to the members of different unions. As per the papers circulated by regional manager P Chandra due to these three collieries CCl incurred a loss of about Rs 162 crores between 2011- 2013. Though the open cast mines possesses all the requisite infrastructure and manpower but both are running in loss and the union leaders are now preparing to raise question on it in the meeting of advisory committee.

In 2011-12 Kedla underground mine was in a loss of Rs. 44.25 crore and in 2012-13 the loss went up Rs. 46.25 crore. Thus in just two years the Kedla underground mines caused a loss of more than Rs. 90 crores. Here the excavation cost of coal is Rs. 5123.45 per tonne while its sale rate is Rs. 1196.31 per tonne.

The Tapin North opencast gave a loss of about Rs. 12 crores to CCl during last two fiscal years while Parez East opencast caused a loss of about Rs. 60 crores during 2011-13. Shankar Singh, a member of advisory committee, said that this is a time to sit together and to think seriously about how to minimize the huge gap between income and loss. He criticized those who are giving statement against the CCl administration and said that this type of leg pulling will harm both the workers and the officers.

The report of income and expenditure of last two fiscal years has not only shown the dark sides of the collieries of Hazaribagh region but it has rays of hope too. As per the report the Jharkhand colliery of Hazaribagh area is regularly making profit.Since last two fiscal years the Jharkhand colliery has given a net profit of Rs. 30.30 crores to Hazaribagh area though there is scarcity of manpower in this colliery. Here the production cost was Rs. 1745.82 per ton while it was sold at a rate Rs. 1960.05 per tonne.
