House reels under pile of unanswered questions

Santosh Narayan

Jharkhand Assembly has perhaps set a record in not answering to its members’ questions, thanks to the Government departments looking the other way. Already under fire for cutting down the duration of the Session, the Government has a lot to answer with 2,446 assurances pending and only five out of 75 Zero Hour questions replied.

The fate of un-starred question is not any different. The Government has not been able to answer as many as 98 un-stared questions asked during the last Session, whereas answers to six starred questions are yet to come. Even baffling is the figure suggesting mammoth 2,446 assurances made in the House, including the 13 given during the last session, are pending. Also, 23 requests were received by the Assembly during the Monsoon Session from the members, but just three have got responses of any kind.
