Making homes is tough; giving them the right look is tougher still. Home Harmony, a tele-retailing start-up offers an unconventional solution to this common quandary, taking orders for home decor items over phone and delivering them to one’s doorstep.

Home Harmony displayed its merchandise in an exhibition cum sale it collectively organised with art house Mann Baawra on Sunday. The exhibit consists of home decor items starting from the entrance to balcony, stated Adreesh Bhattacharya, co-founder of the home decor firm.

“The merchandise on display here is sourced from Mumbai, where a team of professional artisans prepare them. We have door and wall hangings, vases, show pieces, tea lamps and more. What sets them apart is that they have new and better designs that what the conventional shops of the city have to offer. And people of Ranchi are always up for trying something new and exciting,” said Adreesh.

The items displayed by Home Harmony have been made using metal, polyresin fibre and ceramic. Equally contributing to the exhibition are Mann Baawra, who have showcased their canvas paintings, sketches and sculptures for enthusiasts to choose from.

In the exhibition, the visitors can come it, browse through the merchandise on display and place an order right down to specific date of delivery. But on other days, Home Harmony follows a different marketing model – using calls and internet-based instant messaging application WhatsApp.

“We intend to go to the customer instead of bringing them to us. This, I believe, will prove a better business model than what is being practised here in Ranchi,” Adreesh mentioned.

As for expanding Home Harmony to other parts of Jharkhand, Adreesh did not ticked off the tick off the idea all together but professed to focussing on strengthening what he has been doing till now.

“Plans to expand are always there, but we need to make our presence felt in Ranchi first. We will move towards other districts after we have a good gig here,” Adreesh said. On helping Home Harmony with shifting the supply chain entirely from Mumbai to Ranchi, as an art expert, Manjusha Agarwal, Director of Mann Baawra, stated, “We wish this to be a long-lasting collaboration, and in the due course of time we might think about pooling our resources. The level of expertise required in making the art pieces or home decor items we have here is difficult to come by. But there might be a skilled workforce her that can produce such quality pieces in future.”
