The historic Chitri Mela of Senha block, organized on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, concluded with great enthusiasm on Sunday. A large number of religious followers from rural and urban areas reached Chitri-Dandu of Senha block on the banks of South Koel river. Hundreds of devotees took holy bath on Makar Sankranti. After that, worshiped in the temple of Lord Shiva located on the eastern side of the river and performed charity.
It has been a belief that the wishes of the person who worships in this temple on the day of Makar Sankranti are fulfilled. There are many other stone figures near the temple, which people worship with reverence, considering them to be the remains of the ancient temple. The villagers told that the mark of Sheshnag going to the same place is being seen in all the stones. Devotees who come to the fair take a bath on the banks of the Koyal river and offer water and prasad in the temple. There is a small cave-like place between the stones here, which has been the center of attraction for the devotees.
Apart from Makar Sankranti, on the day of Mahashivaratri, thousands of people gather here. Most of the people who visited the fair had brought food items from home and after the worship, curd-chuda and tilkut were seen being distributed and eaten.
The arrival of people at the fair site started from early morning itself, which continued till evening. This fair, which is held in the middle of the Koel river on the rocks, is unique in itself. Children's swing, colorful balloons, spin, variety of entertaining games for youth, decorated shops of sugarcane, dozens of tilkut shops and abundance of peas attract people of all ages in the fair influenced by rural charm and reeks-color. There was enough to attract. DSP Parmeshwar Prasad, SDPO BN Singh along with senior administrative-police officials along with a large number of police forces were ready at the fair site to control the crowd and avoid any untoward incident on the instructions of Police Captain R Ramkumar. Stalls were also set up by many social organizations.
