Hemant Govt would fall after lS polls: TMC

Indications are already there in the air but for the first time the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday declared that the Hemant Soren Government would fall after the lok Sabha elections are over.

“Jharkhand has been suffering from minority Governments and instability which is taking a toll on the poor and downtrodden. At present the State is being governed by a minority Government which would fall soon after the polls are over,” said Soumen Mahapatra, TMC leader and a Minister in the West Bengal Government.

As many as three MlAs belonging to the Congress and the JMM have left their parties to join other parties, including the TMC and are candidates for the lok Sabha. However, two Independents- Bandhu Tirkey and Chamra linda-have merged their lesser known parties into the TMC but are continuing their support to the JMM Government. Their snapping tie with the coalition can prove detrimental to the State Government, running with wafer thin majority, as anti-defection law cannot be imposed onto them.

When asked about the reason behind continuing support to the Government, Mahapatra said that the MlAs were Independents earlier.

“This is anything but not the support of the TMC to the present State Government. As the Independents are now in the TMC, Didi will take a call on this after the elections are over,” he said talkin with The Pioneer. Mahapatra was here to campaign for the TMC candidates.

Talking about April 5 rally of the West Bengal Chief Minister in Ranchi and Dhanbad, Mahapatra said that the party was looking to secure 7-8 seats out of 10 it was contesting in Jharkhand. “Jharkhand is important for us as we would become a national party if we secure 10 per cent of the votes. The TMC is going to become a decisive factor in the next Government formation at national level after the polls,” added Mahapatra.

Though he was not sure about the number of seats the TMC was contesting this poll in the country, meek presence of party candidates outside West Bengal and their winnability and in these circumstances nobody knew what was the basis of his claim to play a crucial role in national policy post polls.
