The delayed South West monsoon which arrived in Jharkhand on Thursday will continue with heavy spells of rain with thundershowers till Saturday across the State.

“Not only Ranchi but the entire Jharkhand State is under the grip of heavy rainfall

since Thursday. Observations recorded till morning 8:30 am show Ranchi has received 71.8 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours while Jamshedpur has received 83.2 mm rainfall. Bokaro has received the maximum rain during the same period with 98.8 mm rainfall,” Forecasting Officer of Ranchi Met Centre Upendra Srivastava said.

Referring the sudden decrease in temperature, an officer of the Met department said, “On Friday and Saturday the day and night temperatures at Ranchi will probably remain between 28 to 23 degrees.”

Significantly, last year monsoon entered the State by June 18 with a weak impact. local Met experts relate this year’s monsoon in active form but the long range is expected to be deficient by five to 10 percent. Meanwhile, the active monsoon has kept Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam ltd on their toes.

RMC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Om Prakash Sah said, “Seva Sadan and Kishoreganj are facing water logging problems due to the telephone cables crossing between the drains. Heavy rainfall since Thursday has revealed this obstacle. We are in process of cleaning such drains as the residents are not only throwing filthy water but also the household wastes. For the next 15 days, we will be cleaning drains of all the wards so that our city remains clean and tidy during the rainy

season”

To tackle the connection of telephone lines, RMC will soon hold a discussion with BSNl officers. Also, the civic body is expressing alertness on complaints received regarding water logging especially from low lying areas like Khadgadha and Kishoreganj. Sah assured to provide all sort of help with the limited resources available at RMC like slabs and manpower. Notably, on the initiation of Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraverty, RMC has deployed labourers in every ward for cleaning the drains everyday since May 31.

“We are religiously observing our staffs assigned in cleaning the drains from ward number 1 to 55,” the Deputy Chief Executive officer added.

Ranchi’s Superintendent Engineer Anil Kumar who is in-charge of city power supply mentioned that the 200 KVA transformers burned till date were repaired on Friday. “Our electricity requirement has reduced by 50 Megawatt since the burned transformers are now repaired. In fact, even in this heavy rain we are in a position to provide sufficient electric supply in all the areas of Ranchi,” Kumar pointed out.
