Health hazards in Garhwa expose babus' tall claims

The present health hazards in Garhwa, particularly in the hilly areas of Bhandariya, Chiniya, Dhurki, Ranka, Ramkanda, Manjhiaon blocks shows how developed our State is inspite of the tall claims of political leaders and senior bureaucrats. The main problem is contaminated drinking water rather than other ones, opine common people, doctors and social activists. It is a fact to be believed and accepted that people living in rural area, are far from getting drinking water. “When there is no scarcity of funds for supplying clean drinking water to villagers, lack of sincerity, interest and overall accountability defeats the very purpose,” says an advocate and a social activist.

Recovery of crores of rupees in the form of disproportionate assets from the possession of Government officials and engineers in the works department in particularly reveals the quantum of corruption in the respective departments and pilferage of money meant for road construction, irrigation and drinking water supply. So, for health-related problems these departments are not alone to be blamed and departments like Health Department and PHED need to be taken to task, he suggests.Poverty and illiteracy are still prevalent in all blocks. Education, particularly primary education, goes on in false admission registers. People know what Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan is.

But once people drink polluted water, health problems start and visible situation comes to the fore in these areas. Hence, to keep people healthy, hospitals, doctors and medicines are not the sole factors and rather coordination among various departments is the need of the hour, the advocate suggests. But in our State hardly such matter is seen in normal days. When things go out of control such meetings are held only to be forgotten at a later stage, comments the social activist.

Our leaders must learn from the health services provided by Jharkhand Government, activist says. It is not at all a welcome gesture to claim ourselves as a State speedily progressing towards development when it is unable to provide safe drinking water to people thereby putting their lives at risk every year, he commented.
