The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday granted one week’s provisional bail to the former Chief Minister Madhu Koda to take care of his ailing mother. Koda is under judicial custody in a graft case related to the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification scheme in Palamau and Dumka districts.

Koda was granted provisional bail in the same case for the second time after he surrendered himself before the CBI Court on May 19. He was earlier granted provisional bail by the court on April 16 for a period of 21 days on the same grounds.

“As we all know, Koda’s mother is very serious and had been shifted to the Fortis Hospital in Delhi from Apollo in Ranchi. She needs to undergo coronary angiography and we had filed a petition for allowing Koda to be present there, which was allowed by the court,” said his advocate Bishwajeet Mukherjee. “He has been granted provisional bail for a period of one week,” he added.

Koda has been lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail for last three and half years and has already been granted bail in four other different cases. He was earlier been granted bail by Jharkhand High Court in a disproportionate assets case and another bribery case relating to forest clearance. On March 1, the Supreme Court also granted bail to Koda and his aide Bikas Sinha for their alleged role in money laundering cases.
