PNS

Jharkhand High Court, while hearing a PIl has directed the private schools of the state to reserve 25 per cent of the total seats for the kids for the poor students. The division court of Chief Justice Virender Singh and Justice DN Patel, while hearing a PIl filed by Rajan Kumar Singh, also directed the state government to publicise the list of BPl families in the state through different medium.

“As per the ruling of the court, none of the private schools in the state will now be able to take admission of general students over the reserved seats,” said petitioner’s advocate Anup Agrawal. Moreover, those schools will also have to put a notice board at the gates highlighting the process of admission for the poor kids, added Agrawal.

Singh had initiated a PIl against the state government not following the provisions of Right to Education (RTE) Act of 2009 which mandates all unaided non-minority and aided minority private schools to reserve 25 per cent of seats for poor children staying nearby. But, according to a survey conducted by social organizations, only 1.6 per cent poor children are admitted to private schools in the capital.
