In one of the most remarkable and encouraging success achieved under Operation Nayi Disha by Jharkhand Police, two hardcore Maoists, Bihar Regional Commander (BRC) Nakul Yadav and Zonal Commander Madan Yadav, have surrendered on Thursday to return into the mainstream of society.
The police have also recovered pilestocks of arms and ammunitions including over 3,200 live bullets, one AK-47 rifle, INSAS rifles and other firearms in lohardaga on Wednesday in a joint operation by the police and Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF).
Nakul Yadav who had been part of hundreds of naxal incidents including killings, extortion and kidnapping during 24 years of his naxal life was carrying a bounty of Rs 15 lakh over his head. Madan Yadav was wanted in dozens of cases after he joined Maoist organisation in 2009. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh over his head. Both the naxalites are said to have been strong pillars of the ultra’s set-up in boarder areas of lohardaga, Gumla and latehar and their surrender is being seen as a huge success for the forces working on eliminating Naxalism from State.
After 10 maoists including three women surrendered in lohardaga on April 26, the police in a joint operation with CRPF on Wednesday recovered 13 rifles, 3,347 round bullets, 32 magazines, four chargers, seven walky-talky, three bundle of black cloth and 10 bundles of wires from boarder areas of lohardaga. The size of recovery has made it one of the largest recoveries from the area in recent times.
“This surrender of seasoned naxalites like Nakul Yadav aka Arjun aka Jawahar aka Budha of Charta and Madan Yadav aka Madan Gop of Gumla is a testimony of dying naxalism in State. This shows how shallow naxal ideology is and how naxalites, who have come across harassments at all levels and of every kind, are willing to return to their home. We welcome their homecoming and State government is committed to all the help in their rehabilitation and safety of them and their families,” said ADG (Operations) RK mallik on the occasion of surrender process.
He said that this surrender was not before the police, but was before the Constitution of the country, before the law of the land and before civilised society. “We want to repeat that naxalites have only two alternatives before them in the State. They either approach to us for returning to the mainstream, or remain ready to face our bullets. Shallow idea of naxalism is scattering now and it will lead no one anywhere,” added Mallik.
IG (Operations) Ashish Batra said on the occasion that the Operation Nayi Disha had witnessed 37 Maoists returning to mainstream. “With today’s count, as many as 32 Maoists have surrendered under this initiative under guidance of DGP DK Pandey in merely four months. Naxalites are struggling with the ideological changes within organisation and exploitation of women and kids, and I am sure we will be welcoming dozens of other naxalites in days to come,” said Batra.
South Chhotanagpur range DIG Amol Vishnukant Homekar, CRPF IG Sanjay Anand latekar, lohardaga SP and other senior officials from Jharkhand Police and CRPF were present on the occasion.
