Governor Syed Ahmed on Monday made surprise inspection of block and circle offices, hospitals and police station at Ratu, about 10 km from the State capital and expressed displeasure over the ailing work culture in government offices. The Governor, during the inspection, also ordered strict action against those found absent during duty hours.
The Governor first reached the Ratu block office and found the Block Development Officer absent. Ahmed asked for the attendance register and himself checked who all were absent during duty hours.
When the Governor inspected the circle office, he found the Circle Officer of Ratu absent. Most of the rooms in the office were closed and piles of files and documents were scattered inside the office.
The Governor is reported to have remarked: If officers are absent till 12 noon, what image will it send across to the massesIJ Is this the work culture of this place, he exclaimed. "People are waiting anxiously outside with their pleas and pains and are expecting that the office employees will solve their problems. But the concerned officials are absent. There is nothing called work culture here. This is very irresponsible act," he said.
The Governor also inspected local police station, Pragya Kendra, CDPO office and Ratu High School. A number of government employees were found absent at these places and the condition of the offices were similar to what the Governor had observed earlier.
This is for the first time that any Governor has made surprise visit to a block/ circle office in the State. The Governor said that block/ circle office is the first door for the common man to knock. He expressed deep distress over the situation at the offices.
The Governor warned the officials that he would carry on with surprise inspections and so everyone must be careful. "Officials must come to their respective offices and complete their work in time because if they are found guilty, I will not spare them," he said adding that the government employees should keep their work place clean just like they do at their houses.
