Governor Syed Ahmed has expressed his displeasure on the slow industrial development Jharkhand has clocked over the years, despite its immense potential. He also called on investors to put in more and contribute to bettering the State.
Ahmed was disbursing subsidy to investors and industrialists in Jharkhand on Friday and underlined the importance of the sector in providing employment to youths. “Invest more and more in the State while adhering to the relief and rehabilitation policies in place. This would contribute immensely to overall development. New mineral-based industries have come up and steel production has increased, but despite the achievements, I don’t think we have achieved more than 20-30 per cent of our potential,” said the Governor.
His Advisor Madhukar Gupta, Industry Secretary AP Singh, Health Secretary K Vidyasagar and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
Ahmed, however, lauded investments in steel, cement, power, tassar silk, handloom, fishery and dairy sectors and the achievements reflected in terms of per capita income. “Jharkhand has good potential in the field of tourism too. It is the most forward State for producing silk and the only State producing organic silk,” added the Governor.
Some industrialists also got reimbursements against investments and VAT paid, according to industrial policy adopted by Jharkhand in 2001.
