Governor Syed Ahmed on Tuesday made a fervent appeal to the State Government officials to make the cleanliness drive launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a grand success in the State, and added that nothing was impossible if every individual determines to work together for a noble cause.
Speaking to media persons, the Governor also added that Modi’s decision to start ‘Clean India’ campaign from October 2 will be a true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, who had always dreamt of a clean India.
Modi, in order to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, has planned to launch ‘Clean India’ campaign aiming to solve the country’s sanitation problems within five years. He has also ordered Government officers to devote the holiday on October 2 for cleaning Government offices, including the toilets under a nationwide cleanliness drive.
“I wish that every individual of the State takes part in Modi’s cleanliness drive and make Ranchi a beautiful place to live in which itself is famous for its scenic beauty and indigenous culture,” said the Governor. “Places like roads, ponds, offices, schools, colleges, including their homes need to be cleaned, he said.
Earlier, the Governor also held a meeting with the top officials of the State administration at the Raj Bhawan and directed them to take proper steps in order to ensure the cleanliness drive across the State.
Calling Modi’s announcement of cleanliness drive from October 2 as a positive step towards a clean India, Ahmed said, “It is time to take a pledge that we will keep the public places clean; neither we will litter, nor allow anybody to do so.”
The Ranchi administration, in the meantime, will hold different programmes under the cleanliness drive from October 2 to November 14. “On October 10, a drive to clean up the piled up files in every Government office will be launched,” said DC Vinay Kumar
Chaubey. Similarly, all statues in the city will be cleaned up on second day of every month with the help of children of NCC, NSS or other voluntary organizations, he added.
The district administration will also be organizing ‘walkathon’ at 10 am from Albert Ekka Chowk to Morhabadi ground. The Governor and the Chief Minister along with other prominent persons will pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at 11 am at his statue. A community toilet at Morhabadi will also be inaugurated on the occasion at 11.30 am.
