State Drinking Water and Sanitation Department is aiming to provide tap water in every house of Jharkhand by 2017. A budget of Rs18,000 crore is required for the set up of which Rs12,000 will be given by GOI and the remaining will be contributed by State Government. Minister of the concerned department Jai Prakash Bhai Patel said that they are presently first Jharkhand Government department to empower most of the PRIs. “We are the only one department to utilise the most of GOI’s money so have received an extra fund from the same recently,” he said. Since Jharkhand ranks last in sanitation among N-E States it is listed as a low Income state, say officials.
