Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Monday announced that the Government will develop the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Pahari at Birsanagar after its beautification into a tourism hub of tribals.
Addressing a gathering at Birsanagar (an urban slum) during inauguration of the beautification project of Birsa Munda Pahari comprising a 12-feet statue of the tribal icon Birsa Munda on the over 150-feet hillock, CM Raghubar Das said, “My Government is dedicated to restore the rights of tribals. The beautification work is an effort to maintain State’s rich legacy.”
As part of Pahari beautification drive, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) is working on an estimated cost of Rs 20-lakh. It has made tiled steps, boundary walls, iron-made sitting benches, plantation of saplings, railing on sides of steps and painting of the rocks and the statue.
He also said that the Government is working on providing legal rights to the urban slum dwellers in Jamshedpur and soon all the residents will be getting malikana haq (ownership rights) on their properties.
Several Opposition parties, primarily the Congress, had been taking a dig at the CM for forgetting the promise of ownership rights to the urban slum dwellers, which he had made for over two- decades as Jamshedpur East MlA.
Significantly, around 4 lakh reside in over 140 urban slums dotting the Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency and most of these areas do not enjoy civic amenities by the Tata Steel and have to depend on (JNAC).
“I believe in development for all with support of all and justice to everyone. Politics is a mission for me and will fulfill every promise made. I have always fought for ownership rights of urban slum dwellers with honesty and raised this issue at Assembly and justice will be done to the urban slum dwellers,” said Das.
While addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister turned nostalgic. He said, “I raised the issue in 1995 when I became the MlA for the first time as I was hit at the lack of quality civic amenities by urban slum dwellers as against the facilities in the Tata command areas. I used to sit in these urban slums with my party workers and discuss their problems. Soon the urban slums would be having quality basic amenities like electricity, street lights, drinking water and roads etc.”
