The days of the virtually outdated employment exchange offices seem to be over. The Government has laid out a plan and road map for a facelift of the all important office which would work as a lot better interface between employers and job seekers in future. The aim is to provide about 50 lakh unemployed youths all desired support to improve their employability in the next five years besides offering them jobs.
Department for Employment and Training took significant steps in the direction on Friday when it threw open its own web portal. The portal would work like a single platform for both the job seekers and providers with over five lakh data available online. All the companies and business houses operating in Jharkhand would be told to register on the portal and avail information about qualified youths seeking jobs.
“We are targeting 40-50 lakh unemployed youths in the next five years and have prepared a complete roadmap for that. We are going to remodel the employment exchange. It would work as ‘Jharkhand Career Center’ now onwards which not only register the unemployed youths but also help them in getting training and career counseling so that their employability can be enhanced,” said labour Minister KN Tripathi while inaugurating a call center and web portal.
The call center would have a toll free number—18003456578—where any person seeking job can get assistance about his registration with the exchange, career advice about admission in colleges or institutions and existing vacancies. The platform would also make available database of job seekers to the employers readymade which enable them to utilise the bank to its optimum level.
There are 43 employment exchanges functional across the State but work in traditional manner like form submission and less effective postal information sharing. The system seldom helps in providing jobs to the youths in the want of a seamless and fast interface.
“The programme would be run under e-governance initiative. The job seekers would have to upload scanned copies of their certificates along with applications. The information can be accessed by companies willing to hire people. Important is that no paperwork is involved into this and the communication between job seekers and job providers would be transmitted through email and phone,” said Rahul Sharma, Secretary of the Department.
The Government would also run a special drive for 15 days staring from October 1 to connect all the companies and industries mandatorily and a public notice would be published for the registration purpose.
