The Government on Wednesday opened its heart for landless in State while restructuring its definition for them while making the rules more comprehensive in public interest. Revenue, land Reforms and Registration Department Secretary KK Soan said on Wednesday that some key decisions were taken by the Government in order to provide Government land and illegally occupied land to landless people.

The changes made towards eligibility of receiving government provided land redefines beneficiary clause saying that Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (Annexure 1 and 2) soldiers, para military forces members, refugees coming from Pakistan and Burma (now Myanmar) after division of India in 1947, landless families from general class, landless Divyang, and police officials of the State laying down their lives on duty other than those who were having less than 2 Acres of land would be considered eligible for government provided land.

Restructured definition also brings into eligible ones to those soldiers, para military forces, those martyred on duty, and families of police personnel having land up to 50 decimal which includes residential property. However, allotment of land for such families will be made in their home districts only.

However, those landless families acquiring government land since 1985 and before but not having their name formally registered in Register-II or having their houses built on such land without having DC or SDO permission or having no proof of land ownership whatsoever will be given one month’s time to get their land regularized, said a notification by Department Secretary who added that their lands would be acquired by the government if they fail to do so.

At the same time, the Department also said that regularization of urban and semi urban land will not be done other than cases of those refugees coming from Pakistan and Burma.Notably, the government made it clear that those already taking benefit of government land will be kept away from the scheme. Moreover, sale-purchase of such land wouldn’t be allowed and only transfer to the generation down will be possible.
