In Jharkhand, various organisations, Government and private both, are implementing many IT practices worth emulating in the State Government and the IT scenario of Jharkhand, said IT Secretary SK Barnwal, while speaking at the inaugural session of workshop on Best IT Practices in Government Organisations in Jharkhand on Monday.

"We intend to involve as many stakeholders from Jharkhand as possible in the ongoing Digital India Week, including government organisations and corporate and academic institutions. It is important for us to plan how they have implemented innovative IT practise in their modus operandi and how Jharkhand Government can do the same. Better coordination among the agencies working under and with the state government can increase their effectiveness," he said.

It's not a one-way street either. "Many practises of the Jharkhand government can also be relevant for the corporate sector. We are increasingly employing more and more Aadhaar based applications, be it PDS or issuing certificates and many more. Private enterprises can use Aadhaar numbers too for managing their systems or bettering their delivery system," said IT Secretary. He added, "We can learn from each other and share ideas, which we can then use in our respective organisations. Better coordination regarding IT practises between the state government and corporate organisation can increase our effectiveness for the betterment of the society."

Chief Guest of the inaugural session, MECON CMD A.K. Tyagi said, "Information technology has become part and parcel of our lives, it difficult to do our jobs without it. Thanks to the Digital India initiative, both urban and rural populace of India will be able to reap the benefits of information technology."Tyagi applauded the recent achievements of IT intervention in the nation's governance, especially the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme for encouraging new customers and generating additional revenue.

On how practical use of information technology can be beneficial, Tyagi said, "We were able to verify the availability of toilets in rural areas of the state using satellite images, for a report to MHRD, without actually going there. Secondly, we determined the feasibility of single pillar flyover from Rajendra Prasad Chowk to Firayalal Chowk within a few hours by using satellite imagery. This is how IT and technology has revolutionised our way of looking at problems and finding solutions."

About Digital locker, a part of Digital India, Barnwal said, "This is the next big thing that we have to achieve in Jharkhand. We need to build an environment where people come forward to get a Digital locker on their own. Now, applicants and institutions can submit and share required paperwork digitally. Adding verified certificates to one's Digital locker will put an end to get the same certificates verified again and again. Now everyone can have their own digital space for free."

He shared the target of one lakh Digital lockers in the state and requested the gathered delegates to register for the service as this will encourage others too."We should make this initiative of Digital locker a part of our personality and biography," said CMD MECON.BBNl Senior GM Sanjay Kumar stated, "We have extended the facility of optic fibre broadband service to panchayats and beyond. We have the technology at our disposal and now how to use it best needs to be planned."
