Now through ‘Nukkad Nataks’, live demo and other creative mediums people will get to know about the consequences of trafficking and other odious crimes. To tackle the menace of human trafficking and in order to target maximum illiterate masses residing in rural pockets across Jharkhand in a unique attempt, Governor Droupadi Murmu flagged off ‘Mukti Caravan’ (Balgram Sandesh Yatra Mini Van) to spread awareness about child rights focusing on child trafficking, child marriage, child labour etc. that has crippled the society and is one major hindrance in State advancement.

Emphasizing on rehabilitation of missing and trafficked children, Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (JSCPCR) in association with Bachpan Bachao Andolan and Bhartiya Kisan Sangh organized a State level workshop. Challenges in repatriation and rehabilitation of missing and trafficked children, prevention and protection strategies for trafficked and missing kids, all stakeholders input on current status of child related offences were considered and discussed with the civil society stakeholders and government officials.

Inaugurating the session and focusing on integrated development of children, Governor, said, “Even realizing the fact that kids are the future of this nation, some of them are forced into child marriage, trafficking and child labour because of poverty and illiteracy. It is every individual responsibility to tackle trafficking and other child related crimes alongside just being dependent on government agencies for it.”

“Until public realizes their pain, any attempt from government part would be just a waste. We need to focus on rural belts on priority basis. Unavailability of shelter homes also adds more to the problem. This apart maximum rescued children should either be readmitted to schools or must be linked up with some skill development course to bring them to the mainstream,” Murmu pointed out.

Civil society representatives including the child right activists are of the opinion that stopping migration is the biggest challenge here and to break the vicious cycle, it is mandatory to understand its nexus. Project Director of Bachpan Bachchao Aandolan, Rakesh Senger, added, “It is high time now and State government must come up with some concrete solutions to stop trafficking and other dreadful crimes. To combat child related offences that is predominant in Jharkhand, Vidhan Sabha must bring ‘Placement Agency Regulation Bill’ with utmost priority soon.”
