An 18-year-old girl, Bijali Kumari, succumbed to snakebite in the district hospital on Monday morning. She was brought to the hospital after a three-foot-long venomous snake bit her on her right leg while she was sleeping in her house at Kairadih village under Bengabad police station in Giridih district.
According to the emergency medical officer, she was bitten around 2 a.m. but her family brought her to hospital late after failing to revive her by adopting traditional methods, “Our doctors’ team made all-out efforts to save her but around 04:15 pm, she succumbed to poisoning.” He added that girl’s father, Baleshwar Mandal, had caught the snake and bought it to the hospital. However, he refused to shift her when doctors tried to refer her to a higher facility in Dhanbad.
