A 45-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Giridih district, a forest officer said on Thursday.
The incident took place near Bajwania village under Birani Maheshpur village police station area on Thursday, he said. The male elephant, which got separated from its herd, chased the woman, lifted her with its trunk and slammed her on the ground, Giridh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajkumar said. The woman died while being taken to Dhanbad after being referred by local doctors.
Sources confirmed in connection with the incident, a 45-year-old woman identified as Devanti Devi, wife of Arjun Modi, resident of Bajbania village.
