Despite various claims made by the Government regarding women empowerment, majority of women entrepreneur feel that more efforts are needed. They feel that gender-based discrimination is still prevailing which is proving to be biggest impediment.
Former Chief Secretary of Jharkhand and founder chairperson of Jharkhand Women commission, lakshmi Singh citing the example of Central Coalfields limited (CCl) explained how women are discriminated at their work place. She said, “In CCl female engineers are prohibited from going inside the mines for inspection and other activities as a result of which their promotion in the organization gets stuck. There is a need to revive Mines Act 1952 in order to provide ground facilties and equal rights to the fair sex.”
Singh feel that if a company expects their female employees to work efficiently and effectively unlike male counterpart then the company must to provide their rights. Moreover, there is a need to generate awareness among the rural people regarding various Government schemes. “Rather than providing blankets and water purifiers it is essential to impart knowledge cum information regarding various schemes which government provides for them. This will help in the overall development of the society,” added Singh.
Central Mine Planning and Design Institute limited (CMPDI) CMD AK Debnath added that discipline was very important in an organization, as our next generation learns from our conduct. “Forum of Women in Public Sector should lend their hand in CSR,” he said. Kavita Yadav owner of Padosan Masala and one of the shining examples of women entrepreneur for the society narrating her journey said, “If a woman is sufficiently ambitious, determined and gifted, there is practically nothing she can’t do.” A regional meet of WIPS Eastern Region 2013 was organized by Forum of Women in Public Sector on Tuesday. CMPDI director (Techinical/ EAS) DK Ghosh, RK Chopra, AS Sharan, CCl Director TK Nag and WIPS coordinator Suchandra Sinha were present on the occasion.
