Abhimanyu, released from Birsa Munda Central Jail on Thursday allegedly for raping and murdering the 17-year-old girl Priti, thanked her for coming out in open paving the way for his release. The 21-year-old boy along with his two other friends - Ajit and Amarjeet was lodged in jail for about three months for a crime which he actually had not committed. Even proved innocent, the other two friends are yet to be released from jail.

“I really thank Priti for coming to police. Otherwise, we would have not been able to come out of jail for a crime which we had not committed,” said Abhimanyu.

According to him, despite making repeated requests before the senior police officials he was trapped into the case alongwith his two friends.

When asked about his plans in the near future, Abhimanyu said that his priority was to first prove himself innocent and get respite from the court. “As I am completely disturbed by the case, I cannot think of anything else until and unless I am relieved out of it,” he added. He has come out of bail and despite having all evidences in his favour Abhimanyu is yet to be declared not guilty by the court.

Recollecting the dreadful story, he said that his friends and he had never accepted the crime, but the police tortured his family in such a way that he was forced to surrender before the police after they came to their house with a warrant of attachment.

“As I never wanted my family to get into trouble, I surrendered before the court on May 15 to avoid any further trouble for my family,” Abhimanyu added.

Abhimanu said that he had to pay the price for being in the phonebook of their friends Ajit and Amarjeet and never had anything to do with Priti. According to Abhimanyu, Priti actually happened to be the friend of Ajit and Aamrjeet.

The youth blaming the whole system to be responsible for putting him in such a situation also demanded that the policemen responsible for ruining his life must be punished. His family members on the other hand, demanded proper compensation for the hardship he was put to for such a long time.

“He has not come out of the house since yesterday after being released from Jail who will now have to go through the wrath of the society as well as his friends,” said Abhimanyu’s father Krishna Kumar Yadav.

According to Yadav, if the police had investigated the Call Detail Records (CDR) of Abhimanyu’s mobile number, his son might not have gone to jail. “I knocked the door of almost all senior police officers including the officer in charge of Chutia Police Station, but they did not hear to me, apparently because I am a poor man,” added Yadav.

On February 19, a police probe suggested that Priti was gang-raped and killed before being set afire. The trio’s ordeal started when a girl’s partially burnt body was recovered from an isolated place between Gosaidih and Majhi Toli in Bundu police station area, about 40km from district headquarters, on February 15.

According to the Police report a girl hailing from Sai Colony, Chutia, had gone to Dhurwa dam with her boyfriend Ajit for a Valentine’s Day date where she was gang-raped and killed by him along with the help of his friends Amarjit and Abhimanyu. The girl’s parents even identified the body leading to the arresting of three youths.
