FJCCI brings cosmetic changes in rules

PNS

Affiliated bodies of Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) were on Saturday left disappointed as the federation sidelined their aspirations and brought minor changes in its constitution. Affiliated bodies have always raised their voices against the provisions in the constitution which weighs heavily in favour of the apex body.

In the Original General Meeting (OGM) conducted on Saturday, the federation brought cosmetic changes in the constitution that falls miles short of the changes that could have a far reaching effect in giving the association of businessmen a representation commensurate to the claim of being the representative of business fraternity in Jharkhand.  As many as 140 members of FJCCI participated in the OGM to discuss the amendments proposed by constitution amendment committee.

In Saturday’s OGM the smaller changes suggested by the constitution amendment committee of FJCCI was brought for consideration of the members. The proposed changes included complying with the provisions of Company law and completing elections of office bearers by the end of September 30 irrespective of accounting process of the federation, changing cut off date for eligible voters except for affiliated members to 30 days from the date of joining and making an elected representative to submit their director identification number (DIN) to sustain membership of the organisation.

The federation once again missed the changes allowing more voting rights to the affiliated body members and paving the way for members of other regional chambers for becoming president of the trade body.  Under the current provision only a Ranchi-based businessman can become the head of the federation. The prevailing system also gives one voting right to the members of the federation based at Ranchi however the affiliated members have the right to cast only two votes.

Meanwhile, the highest body of businessmen in Jharkhand will select new executive on September 7 and the results will be declared on September 8. For the first time in the history of FJCCI election computerised voting has been introduced.
