The England Academy head and BJP leader Arti Kumari and her adopted son Ritesh Kumar were killed by criminals during the course of looting valuables from their house at Hill View road under the Bariatu police station area in the night intervening July 12 and 13, informed the Ranchi SSP Anish Gupta on Tuesday.
Claiming to solve the case, the SSP said that five criminals namely Rajesh Kumar, Ashish Ghosh, Rahul Kumar, Jai Kumar Singh and Sohrai lohra have been arrested in connection with the crime. He said that large part of the looted materials including lCD monitor, UPS, CCTV camera cables, ladies purse, watch bike, samsung mobile phone, gold ear tops, bank passbooks and other materials have been recovered in the operation.
Gupta informed that the police investigation, which was carried out with the help of a large number of police officers and Forensic laboratory team, eventually got success following a tip off about one of the accused Rajesh Kumar Bhagat, who was arrested from Khunti on Tuesday admitted his involvement in the crime and told the names of other accomplices. He also said that he has kept one of the looted mobile phones in his house, which was recovered by police.
Based on Bhagat’s information police raided Bharamtoli and arrested Rahul Kumar Singh from his house and seized the bike used in the crime. A part of the looted materials were recovered from river near the Gitanjali Marriage Hall on the Chiraumndi -Boreya Road. The police later nabbed Ashish Ghosh from his house and looted valuables were also recovered from his house.
The criminals revealed that Ashish Ghosh had planned the crime as had sent Rahul, who knew driving, to meet Arti in the name of getting a job. His real aim was however to detail of the house from inside.
On July 12 Rahul took advantage of his previous meeting with Arti to make her open the doors on July 12. Soon four criminals entered the house while Ashish Ghosh kept vigil outside the house.
As Arti resisted the criminals, the latter strangulated her to death. As they were searching for valuables Ritesh gave then Rs 10,000 from the Almirah. However, Ritesh recognized Rahul and said he would tell everyone about their act. Sohrai then strangulated Rahul till he died and then hung his body from the ceiling in order to give the crime the shape of suicide. All the criminals fled to different places after the crime.
“Police had to work for long hours to solve the crime. Initially we were investigating on a particular angle but as evidences started coming we changed the angle of investigation,” the SSP said
