Five bodies exhumed

RR Srivastava

The district administration on Monday exhumed bodies of the five youths, who were buried by their family members because they were allegedly involved in a bomb-making exercise at Habibinagar on April 17 and the family wanted to avoid the police. The relatives of suspects also came forward after about a week long time to recognise the bodies. They have given an application to the SDO to hand over them the bodies.

Police have also seized two vehicles parked near the blast site that were used in carrying the injured and bodies. After exhuming the bodies police sent them for post-mortem.

On Sunday evening when the police team reached Habibinagar graveyard to exhume the bodies with the court order, the relatives suddenly came forward with a request that they want to identify their relatives who are missing with a wish to give them an opportunity to bury them again with full rituals.

The police team asked them to submit an application to the SDO and the latter acted accordingly on Monday morning. In the application, they have requested the district administration to hand them over the bodies after post-mortem so that they can bury the bodies with proper rituals. Till the filing of this report, they were waiting for the SDO’s order.

The police recovered and seized two vehicles, one red colour Maruti Ecco car and a three-wheeler, which were used by the two accused of this episode for providing medical treatment to the injured persons and in carrying the bodies to the graveyard. It will be helpful in further investigation because the police have found blood spots and remains of some parts of the bodies from those vehicles.

When the bodies were brought to Sadar Hospital in Hazaribagh for post-mortem a team of doctors constituted by the civil surgeon completed the process. As per sources, the post-mortem report will be submitted within two days to the SP and in the court.

Till Monday, police have recovered six bodies and one injured is in its custody. Still one suspect is missing as per the statement of the arrested accused which is under treatment. Police sources said that the residents of Habibi Nagar informed that one body was buried elsewhere which was exhumed in the evening from Sirsi-Damodih village, about two kilometres away from Habibi Nagar.

Since the kin of five deceased have identified them, so it is apparently clear that all were residents of Hazaribagh and the talks of involvement of Bangladeshis in this incident may prove wrong.

SP Hazaribagh Akhilesh Jha said, “The probe will speed up and soon we will solve the case. We are going to investigate everything, which has came in the statement of the accused in custody and in talks going on in the town.”

However, police sources said that the angle of global terrorists behind this episode has not been fully ruled out, because the intensity of explosion itself states the involvement of hands of some outer agencies in this case.
