FIR lodged in PTR jumbo death case

PNS

A forest ranger from Bareysarn of PTR Bhola Singh has lodged an FIR with the Bareysarn Police station in regard to the death of the elephant caused by land mine explosion. This is the first FIR of its kind here in tiger reserve when the ranger has reached police station for the death of a wild life in the past 10 years.

A young male elephant got itself too badly injured in right leg which had put its front right leg on a pressure device IED ( land mine) laid by the Maoists in compartment number 3 of Bareysarn range’s latu forest. The injured elephant succumbed to its injury on September 20.

Singh confirmed the lodging of the FIR in connection with the death of this elephant at latu forest. He said, “Since I am the ranger so naturally I am the complainant of this FIR.”

Sources said there are very few instances when for the death of a wild life police door has been knocked at by the PTR officials. Offence reporting is done most seriously and rituously in cases related to forest & wild life etc.

Singh said that he has in his FIR so lodged with the Bareysarn police station alluded to the land mine explosion which took the toll of this elephant finally as the land mine explosion first damaged the right leg of this elephant and this land mine explosion too had caused acute damages to its trunk as well.

“Since I do not know the names of any Maoist how can I mention it.   It is the job of the police to investigate the case. It is the police to take this FIR to its logical end,” he said.

Chief conservator of forest cum field director Madan Pd Singh of PTR said that the death of this elephant is a fit case for police to investigate for which our ranger Bareysarn has lodged the FIR. He said in the same vein that conservation of wild life is the duty of every section of people and everyone should lend a positive hand towards it.

Deputy Director south division of PTR Mahaling said there will be also offence registration in this case too besides this lodging of the FIR.

Offence registration locally called by PTR officials as ‘offence katna’ is a traditional practice in matters of offences committed against wild life and offence report so prepared is sent to the court of CJM latehar and this will be done in this case too reiterated Mahaling.
