Tiger reserve officials are all set to burn the dead and buried male elephant in Bareysarn under Garu West range of tiger reserve fearing anthrax. Officials have been advised to wear mask and hand gloves with shoes during the process as the burning would be done in a very controlled way.
Field director PTR MP Singh said all care and caution would be exercised during the burning of the body. "Anthrax death is most unfortunate and if any thing is to be blamed then it is the farmers' cattle that eat our grasses here in our habitat meant for the herbivores of PTR. These cattle do not usurp food but drink precious water and also contaminate it," said Singh adding that the management would be requesting the Government for a vet surgeon for the PTR.
