In the process of hitting where it hurts the most, Ranchi district administration has decided to go after unruly registration plate makers of the city. Traffic police in coordination with District Transport Officer organised a meeting on Friday that decided to nail the painters who paint registration number in fancy, stylist or in any manner not in conformity of permissible design for vehicles.
In the meeting, besides Traffic SP Kartik S and District Transport Officer Nagendra Paswan, more than 25 number plate vendors operating in the city participated. “We have been coming across numerous instances of violation taking place in relation to designer and fancy number plates sported on motor cycles, cars and other vehicles. This is clear cut violation of the rules under the Motor Vehicles Act. Thus we have decided to make the number place makers liable as well,” said the DTO.
To execute the decision, now every painter has to mark his name or his shops’ name at some place on the number plate so that he can be identified in case of any deviation taken place. The erring ones would be penalised so that the practice can be dealt with in the city.
“We also made them aware about the set rules about size, shape, font and style of the registration plates on vehicles. Those violating the rules would be caught and acted against,’ said the Traffic SP. When asked about the action against owners of the vehicles, the DTO said action would continue. “This would go on like before. We would expedite the campaign which is continuing against number plates. But apart from penalising the consumers we also need to check source of the illegality.”
Recently the Traffic police had slapped chalan to Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and fined Rs 500 under section122/179 of Motor Vehicle Act for displaying registration number on his bike at other than the place designated.
