After days of hardship in sizzling summer, residents of the capital can afford to cool their heels. The electricity department has completed high capacity transformer installation work at Hatia grid and it is likely that normalcy would return by Friday evening.

Informing about this, Managing Director of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam limited (JBVNl) Rahul Purwar said on Thursday that all loopholes had been plugged now. “We have completed installation work of the 50 MVA transformer on Hatia grid and put in on charge. Presently it has been given no load. It will be charged till Friday evening and then the electricity distribution in the capital would normalise,” said he.

This apart, additional 15 MW is being provided to Kanke grid which has made the Raj Bhawan feeder with no shortage of power and the areas such as Kanke Road, Morhabadi and around are getting full load electricity.

The MD further added that one additional power transformer of 50 MVA was being installed at extremely important Hatia grid to deal with any emergency situation like the one hit the grid presently. “The additional power transformer would be put on charge and would be pressed into service from early next week,” said Purwar.

The power distribution company is also coming up with two more transformers of 50 MVA each at Nankom and Kanke areas of Ranchi keeping in mind future demand of the city growing with leaps and bounds. “Work has been started on this line which would help us in achieving zero-power cut in the days to come,” said the official.

Speaking on electricity distribution franchise issue the MD said that fresh bids would be floated in couple of days. The JUVNl has cancelled franchise given for Ranchi and Jamshedpur to private companies—CESC limited and Tata Power.

“The agreement was done in 2010-11 depending on then parameters which has changed subsequently over the years. Also, the companies had to meet certain conditions in between to abide by the agreements reached which they did not. Thus we have decided to cancel the agreement and a fresh tenders would be floated now,” said Purwar.

Besides Ranchi and Jamshedpur, applications for appointing private electricity distributors would be invited for Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Ramgrah, Giridih and Deoghar as well.
