RR Srivastava

In the village local body election scheduled to be held in the mid of 2015, the people of Hazaribagh will chose 32 members for the district board. There were 25 seats of district board member during last election but this year 7 more seats will be added.

According to election office, the number of district board members is going to increase due to increase in the population of the blocks. As per rule upto 50,000 population it should be one seat, more than 50,000 two seats and for more than 1 lakh residents, three seats are required.

last time only Chouparan block of Hazaribagh district had three seats, but this time Hazaribagh Sadar, Barhi, Barkagaon and Vishnugarh have also came into the three seat category.

last time, in these four blocks, there were eight seats and this time it will be 12. Similarly, due to increase in population the number of seats of district board member is going to be increased in Katkamdag, Keredari and Dadi blocks.

This time, the people of these three block will choose two members each in place of one each chosen last time. There will be no change in number of seats of district board member in Ichak, Chalkusha, Daru, Churchu, Barkattha, Padma, Katkamsandi and Tati Jhariya blocks because there population has not crossed the limit necessary to increase the number of seat.

This year in the village local body election, the number of wards and member of village local body are also going to increase. However the number of mukhiyas will remain as it is because the number of Panchayats has not been increased. It will be 257 as was during last election. The area of the panchayats will also remain same because no fresh demarcation has been done by the administration.
