Elected representatives have equal right in decision-making: Mayor

PNS

Mayor Asha lakra on Friday came down heavily on the statement given by Town Commissioner Prashant Kumar to the media recently that the elected representatives do not have much say in decision-making or they can put their opinion in deciding tenders etc. According to lakra, these are mere petty politics to distract elected representatives from their main agenda of work and development.

Showing the rules of Municipal Corporation as described, Mayor said that all allegations made against her were baseless. “All elected representatives have equal rights in taking up the decisions as he/she is the Head of procurement committee, Chairperson of Board Committees and so on,” said, lakra while briefing the media persons.

Explaining about the process and modes of procurement committee, Mayor said, “From assessment of requirements to operation and maintenance, every minute detail requires the consent of elected representatives as well. The worst part is that even six processes involved in the pre-bid procedure were not brought into limelight before finalizing the tender.”

Notably, the clash between Mayor and Town Commissioner arose recently, when the contract of Bright Neon lightening was extended without defining the proper norms. Technical problems that include installation of hoarding with CCTVs without defining its height, distance, locality etc is suspicious by the company (Bright Neon), said Mayor.

“Earlier, I was not made aware about the few essential process involved in tender. At present, Surya lights have been assigned to maintain lED lights installed at various places for five years,” added Mayor.
