The Special PMLA court of Ranchi today allowed three days remand of arrested Kolkata based businessman Amit Agrawal and Dilip Ghosh. The Enforcement Directorate will now interrogate Kolkata-based businessmen Amit Agarwal and Dilip Ghosh, the accused arrested in the army land scam case.
During the hearing at the court of Special ED Judge Dinesh Rai, advocate for Amit Agarwal and Dilip Ghosh, Vidyut Chaurasia, opposed the demand for remand in the court. On the other hand, ED's Special Public Prosecutor Shiv Kumar told the court that the investigation so far has revealed that those arrested are the biggest masterminds of the land scam. In this case it is necessary to interrogate them. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court approved the remand. The production of both the accused was done through video conferencing from jail.
Notably, the ED had sought a remand of five days from the court for questioning of the accused on Thursday. But, after appearance in the court, both were sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail (Jail) in judicial custody. Agarwal and Ghosh were arrested late on Wednesday from Kolkata. The ED is probing the sale and purchase of land occupied by the Army at Bariatu in Bargain area of Ranchi. ED has arrested eight people including former Ranchi DC Chhavi Ranjan in this case and sent them to jail.
Notably, the ED is looking for answers to many questions from the accused persons. Both Agarwal and Dilip Ghosh have not revealed till now who all are involved in the alleged land scam, who benefited and who played what role in this whole episode. The ED has seized many electronic devices and digital equipment during the raid. The accused have not revealed anything about the same. Scrutiny of these documents and equipment is necessary, so that the investigation can proceed and the evidence is not tampered with.
Amit Agarwal and Dilip Ghosh have benefited the most in this whole scam. The accused are still not giving information about cash transactions and sources of money. Many suspects are also involved in this scam. What is their role and how they engineered the alleged scam is a big question to be asked from the accused persons.
