Easily available porn degenerating morals, causing rapes

Mukesh Ranjan

Easy access to porn videos in the form of CDs, Internet and mobile phones also contributes to the growing incidents of child rape in the society. According to experts and social activists, easy availability of pornographical material in various forms leads to social and mental degradation. After watching these videos, emotionally weak people are aroused physiologically who tend to find younger preys, who belong to the most vulnerable groups that could be easily cheated.

These videos lead to psychological disorder among some individuals arousing the urge of sex and committing some heinous act of rape.

“The porn stuff easily available in the market definitely contributes to the growing incidents of rape cases as they arouse an individual physiologically and increases the urge of sex among the emotionally weak persons, who then tend to find some easy prey who are younger and vulnerable and could be easily cheated,” said RINPAS Director Dr Amool Ranjan.

These persons are generally alcoholic suffering from ‘conduct disorder’, who develop anti-social traits and get satisfied by breaking rules. The syndrome is called Impulse Control Disorder.  It is also an antisocial trait where they get instant pleasure by breaking rules.

“They get pleasure out of inflicting pain to others. They are generally frustrated people having a very low tolerance level. As soon as they watch these videos, they cannot resist themselves and try looking for an easy partner in form of a child,” he added.

Proper education and awareness among the society is needed to check such incidents of rape and molestation of children As it is a responsibility of everyone, immediate action is also required if such incidents of molestation and rape are shared with the teachers and parents.

According to Ranjan, orientation towards sex must also be changed which needs to be discussed as denial is not a solution to anything.  As way of expressing love has become materialistic type and body contact is counted more than the emotional contact, easy access to these porn stuff leads to increase of such incidents of rape.

“Videos and literature were available in the past also, but as they could now be accessed more easily again and again, its impact on the mental set up of an individual has increased. Those who have no access to a partner are always looking for a chance and make an attempt whenever they get a chance- it could be an adult or a girl child, depends on its impact on the mind,” said Neuro-Psychiatrist BP Sinha. Most of them find a prey in their family and neighbours, he added.

Social activist Poonam Anand, also blames these easily available porn stuff for the increasing incident of rape in the society and demands complete ban on those as it has been banned in Malaysia.

“As these stuffs encourage ‘sex crime’ instead of health education among the younger generation of the society, it should be banned completely in the society or at least should have some restriction on its availability,” said Anand.

“Moreover, immediate change of mentality is needed in the society. We need to respect each other as there is an acute shortage of feeling of respect among the individuals,” she added.  The government must also ensure immediate justice to the victims which will prove to be a deterrent to the society.
