DVC family fights together for survival of assets

SURESH NIKHAR

The ongoing protest of DVC employees irrespective of groups A, B, C, D, against the temporary chairman from the same competing firm is bent upon destroying corporation by handing over the cash cow i.e. the physical assets of HT (High tension) distribution and transmission system and the water resources like the Barrage and Irrigation canals to the Government of West Bengal continued on Monday with the members of DVC trade unions- recognised, non-recognised and other employees of DVC, Bokaro Thermal staging a demonstration at the BTPS.

They alleged disbanding of the glorious organisation, DVC which was conceived by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawahal lal Nehru.

DVC engineers, association sources said that the surreptitious move, its timing and the speed with which the process is being moved by the temporary chairman, Arup Roy Choudhuri, is suspected and doing so with some political motive.

DVC Engineer’s Association general secretary PP Sah, requested to the Chief Election Commissioner of India for their kind intervention, to hand over the high transmission line system and Barrage of DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation )to the State of West Bengal.

Sah stated in his letter to the Chief Election Commissioner that DVC has taken 66 years for this glorious organisation to evolve into power behemoth in the eastern region on its own.

It is true that the financial condition of the organisation is not healthy due to the actions of the previous chairman from NTPC RN Sen.

“We, as the stake holders have been entirely kept in the dark and the move is being contemplated at an time when the elections are on and the entire Government machinery is pre-occupied in the holy job of conducting the general elections. We strongly feel that the decision of reviving the organisation to be left to the next elected Government and Ray Choudhuri should be restrained from initiating such disastrous actions which will adversely effect the livelihoods of 10,800 employees and 15,000 pensioners, he further added.

According to the general secretary of Engineer Association, PP Sah, that handing over the HT distribution system of DVC in the State of West Bengal to Government of West. West Bengal is keenly interested to take over the HT distribution network of DVC within the State of WB including its sub-stations and

associated transmission lines .

There is an opinion that DVC Act permits DVC to carry on business in the command area of Damodar Valley. There are huge numbers of consumers connected with the HT distribution.

Average monthly bill is in the tune of Rs500 crore and the consumers are paying the same regularly. In fact, DVC is

surviving on the income from these consumers. “If we hand over this distribution network, consumers will raise their bills to WBSEDCl, Govt of West Bengal and our dues on Govt of West Bengal may get pending like Govt of Jharkhand. Thus, DVC will automatically get collapsed,” Sah further added.
