In a shocking incident, a drunk man opened fire at a liquor shop-owner's house that led to the death of a seven-year-old girl and inuring to her nine-year-old brother at suburban Parsudih on Thursday night.
According to the sources, both the little girl Ranju and her brother Raj were shot while they were in deep sleep along with their parents at the house in lattugora in Parsudih.
The assailant fired a single shot through a hole in the door, killing the girl on the spot and hitting the boy in his right temple. The girl died on the spot. The injured boy has been admitted at the Tata Main Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
The victim’s father Durga Purty said that last evening Rajesh Samad and Puttu Samad had visited his residence-cum-liquor shop for consuming liquor.
“After consuming liquor they started going away without paying the bill. I stopped them, asked them to pay. They had a dispute over the payment. On insisting on the payment of the liquor, Rajesh threatened him with dire consequences and left the place. And late at night when we all were asleep they came and shot my children,” narrated Purty.
Purty said he would earn a living by selling liquor at his house, but Rajesh and Puttu used to extort a fixed amount of `500 every month for running the liquor business at the house. Both Rajesh and Puttu had made a habit of taking liquor free of cost which he had objected.
Officer-in-charge, Parsudih police station VK Chaturvedi confirmed the shooting incident at lattugora last night. "We are investigating the incident. Both Rajesh and Puttu are criminals and they have left the Parsudih locality having committed crime at Durga Purty's house. We are raiding different places to nab them,” said Chaturbedi.
He said that they have come to know that the assailant had come in a motorcycle, and stated that they are yet to confirm whether there was one person or more than two responsible for the attack.
The police have sent the body to the MGM Medical College mortuary for postmortem. A case of murder has been filed against Rajesh and Puttu on the statement made by Durga Purty.
