Daltonganj-based gynecologist Dr Archana Tiwary helped a woman passenger Pooja Kumari travelling to Sasaram in Ranchi –Sasaram Intercity Express in delivery of a healthy girl child at platform number 1 of the Daltonganj railway station on Thursday night. The woman Pooja was travelling along with her husband Vivek when she developed labour pain. Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr John F Kennedy took the initiative when he was informed about the incident.
The woman delivered the girl child all in the open but with some makeshift arrangement made by the woman personnel of the Daltonganj railway station! The mother and her infant are doing fine said Dr Archana Tiwary.
Sources said the civil surgeon Kennedy was informed about this episode and then began a flurry of medical activities. Nurse, ambulance, cotton, injection and big of all gynaecologist Dr Archana Tiwary's care and supervision. All arranged in the shortest of time last night said sources.
Sources said the civil surgeon managed it in a well planned manner, no panic, no chaos. His team supported him. It was late night around 10 pm last night and within 30 minutes the mother and her newly born girl were right in the MMCH Daltonganj.
The railway station superintendent Anil Kumar Tiwary gifted a big white towel for the baby.
The town police station in charge Abhay Kumar Sinha kept eyes on the development as it was night and Pooja and her husband Vivek were just passengers in medical urgency.
On being asked as to whether Pooja ought to have taken such a train journey Kennedy said she should not have embarked upon this journey as she has had her full term pregnancy then. Kennedy however praised Pooja for her decision to get down at Daltonganj railway station as any wavering of decision to stop at Daltonganj rly station or not would have meant huge problem for Pooja and her husband.
Kennedy said we took immediate care of her and her baby. During the 2020 Covid pandemic a migrant woman worker had a similar problem in the Shramik special train when for her severe labour pain she got down at Daltonganj railway station from where she was rushed to the MMCH Daltonganj only to deliver a healthy boy then. Here Sasaram bound Pooja delivered the baby right on the platform. The baby has been immunised said Dr Archana Tiwary.
