Among the 5,500 students who appeared for Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination(IIT-JEE) Advanced this year from Jharkhand, around 750 have got the taste of success. The results of the final entrance of IITs were declared on Thursday.
Dhanbad’s Ayush Mukherjee, Jamshedpur’s Kishlay Raj and Ranchi’s Aditya Kumar bagged the top three positions in the State by securing the 40, 77 and 84 ranks respectively, at the All India level.
The first round (IIT-JEE Mains) was held on April 6 shortlisting 1.5 lakh students across India, out of which around 1.25 lakh later appeared in the JEE-Advanced on June 25 to compete for the 10,000 IIT seats.
“Making to the IITs is almost everybody’s dream and the fact that I have done it is yet to sink in completely. My first preference is Electrical Engineering branch since I have a natural inclination towards this subject. In IITs, I would either join IIT Delhi or Kanpur,” said Ayush Mukherjee, the second CBSE Class 12th State topper who passed from Delhi Public School (DPS) Dhanbad with 97.6 per cent marks.
He added, “In the CBSE 12th examinations I skipped the first State position by one mark but this time I was lucky enough.”
Meanwhile, Kishlay, who passed from Rajendra Vidyalaya, Jamshedpur, is aspiring for Computer Science at IIT Mumbai as he feels this IIT has modernised its courses at par with the industrial needs rather than Kharagpur.
Similar to Kishlay, Aditya, a student of St Thomas School Ranchi, the second topper from Jharkhand in the ISc examinations this year with 97.5 per cent marks is aiming for either IIT Delhi or Mumbai’s Computer Science branch.
“Since I have qualified Olympiad for Informatics as well and the curriculum of IIT’s Computer Science suits my liking for software studies, IIT Delhi’s Computer Science is hopefully my first choice,” he said.
Experts say that though the IIT-JEE entrance examination were easier this time, the higher cut off marks made it difficult for students to qualify and it is proved that the competition is getting tougher with every passing year.
IIT-JEE examination includes entry to the 16 IITs and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
Around 30 students of DPS Ranchi have passed this respective examination wherein Priyankar Garai has secured 537 rank in the Scheduled Caste (SC) Category.
Zishan Zainul who studied at DAV Public School, Hazaribag for 14 years (lKG to XII) has made the school proud by cracking JEE Advanced 2014 with All India Rank 6390 in General Category and 977 in OBC Category.
Bokaro students also shined in the exams as Suman Swroop, student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya scored 273 rank and topped in the district. More than 150 students including 52 students of Delhi Public School (DPS) and 50 from Chinmaya Vidyalaya Bokaro (as per information received so far) qualified in the JEE (Advanced)-2014.
Shashank Sekhar of Chinmaya Vidyalaya got 11 PDS rank while Abhimanyu student of DPS Bokaro scored 53rd All India Rank in the SC category. Gaurav scored 519 and Saurav got 969 ranks, both are the students of Chinmaya Vidyalaya Bokaro.
