DGP of Jharkhand Police Niraj Sinha has sought a report from Dhanbad police about gangster Aman Singh threatening Dhanbad-based doctor Dr. Samir Kumar for extortion. The DGP sought the report in the wake of the media reports that the doctor has left Dhanbad.
Talking to The Pioneer, Dhanbad SSP Sanjeev Kumar said that a report has been sent to the police headquarters.
“About 15 days back the doctor received three threatening calls from a gangster lodged in the jail in Dhanbad. Immediately, a bodyguard was provided and the case is under investigation. Some people said that he left Dhanbad. But I inquired about the matter and spoke to him also. He informed me that he is out of town to attend a private function. The investigation is going on this matter and the result will come out very soon,’ said Dhanbad SSP.
Samir Kumar is a surgeon who runs a nursing home at Matkuria locality under Bank More police station. He was asked to pay Rs One Crore as extortion else he would be murdered.
The victim had met SSP and narrated his woes that he is being threatened through voice and video calls. Dhanbad Police has now sent a proposal to the police headquarters and the district court to transfer him to a jail in another district. He frequently makes phone calls from jail to demand extortion from businessmen, doctors, and other people.
“The internal security of the jail is not in our hands so we can’t say who meets him inside the jail and how he secures calling devices. But outside of the jail, we have increased security and we are watchful that who else meets him inside the jail. He will be transferred to another jail and an investigation in this matter is going on,” said another official of Dhanbad police.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Dhanbad Raj Sinha termed this incident as the return of jungle raj. The BJP also held a demonstration against the poor law and order in the district.
This is the second incident when criminals targeted a doctor. Earlier, criminals vandalized the vehicle of IMA's district secretary Dr. Sushil Kumar when he was traveling along with family members.
He said that if the situation did not improve doctors would be forced to shut down their nursing homes.
